International Rescue Committee

International Rescue Committee

The International Rescue Committee provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, and other immigrants to thrive in America. Each year, thousands of people, forced to flee violence and persecution, are welcomed by the people of the United States into the safety and freedom of America. These individuals have survived against incredible odds. The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors, and local volunteers to help them translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities. In Turlock and other offices across the country, the IRC helps them to rebuild their lives.

LearningQuest - Stanislaus Literacy Centers

LearningQuest - Stanislaus Literacy Centers

What initially was created to help local cannery workers, has blossomed into a community based organization offering assistance in adult literacy, GED preparation, family literacy, English as a second language, and jail education.

Mission: Empowering adults through educational services and improving self-reliance for the family.

Over 100,000 adults in Stanislaus County have difficulty using an ATM machine or reading a bus schedule. Not being able to read well affects everything from a person’s ability to find a job, to read to their child, to filling out health forms.

Through a wide range of FREE literacy services, like reading, writing, math, life, technology and work skills, LearningQuest helps a diverse population of learners meet their needs and achieve their personal and employment-related goals. (Hablamos español)

Love Our Neighbors

Love Our Neighbors

We exist to spread this idea of living a life of love to everyone in our community. We exist to be bridge builders between those who want to help and those who need help. We exist because we believe that when our entire community embraces this command, our community will be transformed.

Take some steps to get to know your neighbors. Did you know that neighborhoods become safer when you know your neighbor? Neighboring relationships really do matter. Let's become a community of great neighbors!

Modesto Gospel Mission

Modesto Gospel Mission

Since 1948, the Modesto Gospel Mission has provided nutritious meals, warm beds, and a place of safety to thousands of poor and homeless men, women, and children.

Through various services, we are able to help someone go from homeless to home. We touch lives with the love of Jesus and offer hope where there is often despair. We minister to the whole person – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We do this by providing shelter, clothing, meals, Bible studies, life skills classes, GED and adult high school classes, employment assistance, addiction recovery, medical assistance, and more. Modesto Gospel Mission receives no Government funding and depends completely on the gifts of God’s people – individuals, churches, groups, foundations, and businesses that care about the poor and homeless in Stanislaus county.
