Habitat for Humanity
About Us
Habitat for Humanity International is a Christian housing ministry founded in 1976, connecting people from all faiths and walks of life, to work in partnership with families in need, and to help eliminate poverty housing in our community and worldwide.
Habitat symbolizes what can be done when a community comes together bringing hope, changing lives, and making a real difference in our community.
We Believe...
-
Families in need are best served with a hand up, not a handout.
-
People will be better citizens when there’s hope they can, one day, become homeowners.
-
Habitat should increase awareness around various housing issues.
-
We don’t just build houses, we change lives.
Habitat for Humanity Partner Family
Canela-Sanchez Family
The Sanchez-Canela family of 5 (mom, dad, and 3 kids) moved into their Habitat for Humanity Stanislaus County home in January 2019. Their primary goal for applying to the program was, "We want to be able to provide a safe home for our kids and have them live in a good neighborhood away from drugs."
Prior to moving, the family lived in a 2 bedroom/1 bath mobile home with mold, lack of storage, sagging floors and unstable walls.
The family had a large support system to complete their 500 sweat equity hours helping to build Habitat houses. This construction experience will help them transition from renting to home ownership.
